Waldheim Cabins

The waldheim cabins offer a wilderness accommodation experience within the cradle mountain national park. For a greater challenge there is the walk to marion's lookout or the summit of cradle mountain. You can do a number of short walks close to your cabin including the weindorfer's forest walk, which begins at the waldheim chalet, or the two-hour dove lake loop track. Cradle mountain is the starting point for the overland track, a 65-kilometre walk through the park to lake st clair in the south. Two amenities blocks, each with showers and toilets, are nearby. Each cabin has cooking facilities and there is a gas, electric or wood heater. The cabins accommodate between four and eight guests in single bunk beds; guests should provide their own bedding. The park is a two-hour drive from launceston (144 kilometres) and an hour-and-a-half from devonport (83 kilometres).the eight cabins are located behind waldheim chalet, the home built by pioneer gustav weindorfer in 1909, now a museum commemorating his life. Cradle mountain is located at the northern end of the cradle mountain-lake st clair national park. At dusk, you can watch for grazing wallabies and wombats on the open plains.
